Electric - shaft drive
made in Austria
Your boat has a shaft drive and you would like to replace the old diesel engine with an environmentally friendly, zero carbon and maintenance-free electric drive or you are planning a new building where a shaft drive system is the optimal solution - then our electric shaft drives EWG are the first choice. |
You will find suitable electric shaft drives in the power range from 2.0 kW to 20 kW shaft power. If you need even more engine power, higher drive power is possible as a special design. |
Or you would like to convert your drive system to a hybrid drive system - no problem, electric drive powers in the range of 2.0kW to 20kW shaft power are also possible here. This allows you to drive fully electrically in the lower power range, in which a combustion engine works very uneconomically, and you only use the diesel engine if you need higher drive power or the distance to be driven exceeds your battery capacity. |
EWG-48-10-YAN, 10kW shaft drive with reducing gear 2,5:1, mounting compatible to Yanmar 3YM20 model range |
Converting from a combustion engine to an electric drive is usually extremely easy: |
First, all components of the old diesel engine, including the gearbox, engine control lever and tank system, if the the tank system are not required for a generator on board, must be removed, so that only the free end of the shaft remains unchanged. |
In the next step the motor is mounted on the existing motor foundation, which may need to be adjusted using the adjustable flexible engine mounts supplied, aligned with the shaft and the shaft is connected to the motor using the clamp coupling (shaft diameter 25mm, adjustment required for other diameters). |
If your new electric shaft drive is water cooled, the cooling system has to be connected, with fan cooled drives this is of course not necessary. |
At last you have to connect the electric wiring, but this is a very easy thing. |
In all shaft drives of the EWG series, the motor control unit is mounted directly on the engine rear wall, which also serves as a heat sink for the motor control unit. All parts, motor and control unit, are already wired, all you have to do is connecting the throttle and battery monitor via connectors, mount the main switch, the charger and connect the batteries. This completes the complete conversion and the new environmentally friendly drive system is ready for operation.
In all water-cooled EWG shaft drives, the motor control unit is water-cooled via the engine cooling circuit to ensure optimum operational safety.
The delivery contents:
In option “liquid cooling” the delivery contents additional:
Heat excanger, fittings, hoses and seawater circuit pump are not a part of the delivery contents, but can optionally be supplied as a complete kit!
On request, we can also supply pre-assembled connection cable sets for the battery and charger connection for your ship with all the necessary components and detailed documentation with installation instructions, parts list and schematic.
Various chargers, variants of the single-lever throttles, various battery monitoring and display systems, tachometer and, of course, the necessary batteries are also available from us.
